COACHING LICENSE PATHWAY
We are committed to providing all coaches, from beginner to advanced, with education tailored to their experiences and the needs of their players. The Coaching License Pathway consists of a series of courses designed to meet the specific needs of a coach at every step of the way. We believes education is a journey, and our goal is to provide the necessary tools, guidance, and mentorship a coach requires.

A TOPSoccer Coaching Course is offered by some State Associations and is a four-hour introductory course for coaches in TOPSoccer. This course guides both the novice and experienced soccer coach in providing a fun growth experience for soccer players with disabilities. The course presents information on player characteristics, the qualities of a good coach, how to utilize the TOPSoccer Buddy and modern coaching methods. To find out more information on courses in your area, contact your State Association.
U.S. Soccer Introduction to Grassroots Coaching- This free introductory module, which represents the first step in the newly revised coaching license pathway, is now the general starting point of the pathway and is the required prerequisite to register for any of U.S. Soccer's Grassroots Licensing Courses. Coaches who complete the module will also be provided with four complimentary Play-Practice-Play training sessions. The module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The United Soccer Coaches Course Menu is designed with flexibility in mind for coaches to choose their desired level of entry based on previous experience. Development courses all offer unique material and can be taken in any order. United Soccer Coaches recommend reading each course description to determine the best fit for you; make sure to pay attention to any potential prerequisites. United Soccer Coaches offers a comprehensive yet focused curriculum inclusive of all coaches at all levels of the game.
F2020-21 BACKGROUND CHECK INSTRUCTIONS
Soccer Year Fall 2020 – Spring 2021
Coaches and staff members,
All US Club Soccer staff members must now complete SafeSport [Core, Refresher 1 or Refresher 2] annually. If you currently hold a membership with 7/31/2021 expiration date you must complete your next SafeSport training and upload the certificate per instructions below under SafeSport.
All staff whose membership expires 7/31/2020 or are new need to complete the background screening, SafeSport Training and Sideline Sports Doc (both online Training programs mandated by US Club and replacing the Concussion quiz). To find out if your background check has expired, check with your club registrar.
REGISTRATION/MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
One is registered with US Club Soccer when the following requirements are completed and current (pursuant to the Staff Eligibility Timeframes:
Membership/registration purchase (Usually completed by the club/organization’s registrar on behalf of the individual being registered)
Sideline Sports Doc (SSD) training
Disqualification/suspension verification (Verified internally by US Club Soccer staff; no action is needed by the person being registered).

Below are the instructions to complete the process. You will not be allowed to coach, obtain a pass, or be on the roster without completing and passing the above noted requirements.
Instructions for US Club Soccer Staff Registration:
Firstly, go to this link Sideline Sports Doc Training Program to complete and pay via credit card ($5) the Training Program (Sideline Sports Doc). After 100% completion, you will be e-mailed a certificate. Save the certificate to your computer and upload to this link: Sideline Sports Doc Training Verification Form.
Secondly, Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive an auto-reply email with the link, U.S. Soccer access code, and instructions to take the required SafeSport online training course. (The U.S. Center for SafeSport and U.S. Soccer will not allow the code to be posted publicly.) After 100% completion save the certificate to your computer and upload to this link: SafeSport Training Verification Form.
Thirdly, go to this link US Club Soccer Background Screening Application to complete and pay via credit card ($18) the background screening.
WYSL is not linked via API for background screening or trainings. You must choose “WYSL – Westchester Youth Soccer League” as your “Club” (at bottom of the Club pulldown menu). DO NOT TYPE IN ANYTHING. (If you do, you will not be credited.) US Club Soccer Administration will be reviewing the certificates uploaded and advise the league if incorrect certificate(s) were uploaded.
Watch your e-mails in case the background provider needs to contact you regarding any questions they may have.
You will receive a confirmation when the screening has been completed. No need to forward.
Ask your club registrar if you have any questions. They can tell you if you have been marked “eligible” or not. This process can take up to ten days. You do not need to contact the League. This background check will be good for any affiliated US Club league/club for up to 2 years.
COVID-19-related court closures may cause delays with some background screening results. Please check this NCSI web page for more information and a list of affected courts.
